But, when the checkered flag went in the air, Parsons was the one celebrating in Victory Lane. Parsons beat Burns to the line after their battle to pick up the victory.
Parsons, a former Triple Crown champion, is off to a strong start in 2024. Burns had a good run himself, crossing the line second. Richie Helger Jr. worked his way into the front few and finished a strong third, with Brenden LaBelle and Mason Tessier rounding out the top-five. Rodney Dowless Jr., Chase Silvia, Brandon Martinez, Kevin Davis and Dylan Calabro finished the top-10 spots after 30 laps. Driving the No. 13, Burns jumped out to the lead early in the first 25-lap race of the season and held off Richie Helger Jr. late to score the feature win. Burns, who also competes on NASCAR Saturday in the Late Models, is off to a strong start on Fast Friday. Helger charged his way through the pack, bringing the No. 99 Helger’s machine home in a strong second. He was followed to the line by teammate Mason Tessier, who had to come back from early race trouble, and finished third. Rodney Dowless Jr. and Chase Silvia followed across the line in fourth and fifth. Brenden LaBelle, Kevin Davis, Jimmy “Pepe” Silvia, Jaden Hamilton and Steven Bowden finished the top-10. Burns rocketed to the front quickly in the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars season-finale and never looked back, dominating the 30-lap finale and winning the championship in the process. Burns was among the fastest cars all year, and when it mattered most, he did enough to become a Seekonk Speedway champion.
Brendan LaBelle finished the final race of the season in second. Isaiah Newcomb, Richie Helger Jr and Nicholas Bulkeley — all joining Burns in the Final Four to race for the title on Friday — finished third, fourth and fifth. Chase Silvia, Nick Lascuola, Mason Tessier, Stephen Bowden and Jaden Hamilton finished the top-10. The season is now complete for the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars division. SEEKONK, Mass. — After a tough first week, the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars returned to the track on Friday night for another 25-lap feature, and it looked like a different division. They ran the entire distance without a caution flag and at the end, Jacob “Rowdy” Burns held off a hard-charging Isaiah Newcomb to take the feature win.
Burns jumped out to the lead quickly, while Newcomb had to work his way through the field. Their paths crossed with just under five laps to go, when Newcomb closed to the back bumper in the race for the lead. He tried everything he could to get around, but couldn’t quite make the move. Burns would win, with Newcomb finishing second and Josh Parsons charging to the front to finish in third. Nicholaus Bulkeley, Mason Tessier and Richie Helger Jr. were not far behind them at the finish. The Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars will return to the track on Friday, June 9 for another race. The Legends were last in line on Friday night to crown their season champion, and the ensuing battle between Devin Deshaies, Reese Bogue, Jake Silvia, and Josh Parsons did not disappoint.
Trouble found Bogue early as he became tangled with a handful of drivers in a Lap 1 incident, but fortunately was able to rejoin competition after heading pit side for repairs under yellow. Jacob Burns and PJ Evans showed the way for most of the 30-lap feature, with Deshaies, Parsons, and Silvia all riding in line just behind. Deshaies No. 88 machine was strong throughout, moving by Nick Bulkeley and Evans as the laps wore on, distancing himself from his playoff challengers. On Lap 22, Deshaies and Burns got together as they battled for the lead, sending Deshaies into a spin. Burns’ day was done, and Deshaies was put to the rear as an incident car. With minimal laps remaining, Deshaies would need the drive of his life to have a hope of grabbing the championship. The field regrouped and got underway for a few more laps, allowing Deshaies to make up significant ground on Silvia, Parsons, and Bogue. One last time, the yellow flag flew, forcing a mad dash to the finish with three laps remaining. Silvia, Bogue and Parsons lined up grouped together one last time, led by Evans and Bulkely. Deshaies still sat a few rows deep. Coming off Turn 4 to take the checkered flag, Silvia and Bogue became crossed up as they drag raced for the championship, sending both cars off course and taking Parsons with them. Like a phoenix from the ashes, Devin Deshaies drove to the outside, avoiding the wreckage involving his playoff challengers, and soared across the line to claim the 2022 Legends Championship in heroic fashion. At the line, Evans crossed first to take down the feature win, followed by Bulkeley and Deshaies. Isaiah Newcomb and Mason Tessier followed, finishing fourth and fifth. After the dust settled on the final lap. Reese Bogue was scored 10th, Parsons 12th, and Silvia 13th. SEEKONK, Mass. — Devin Deshaies may have taken a small break from victory lane, but the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars points leader was back on Friday night. Driving the No. 88, Deshaies bested Jacob “Rowdy” Burns, Brendon Hammann and others over the final laps to take the victory.
It wasn’t easy — but Deshaies didn’t give up. He charged to the lead, then had a spirited battle with Burns for multiple laps in order to take down the win. Hammann would finish second in the 25-lap feature, while Burns crossed in third. Josh Parsons and Jake Silvia weren’t far behind at the finish, scoring fourth and fifth place efforts. Nicholaus Bulkeley was sixth, followed by PJ Evans, Brendan LaBelle, Mason Tessier and Jase Mongeon. The Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars will return to the track on Friday, August 27, for another 25-lap feature. Seekonk Speedway announced today the addition of the Nick Lascuola Racing (NLR) Summer Showdown as part of the Bay State Classic on Wednesday, July 27. As part of a full night of mid-week racing at the third-mile, the Pro All Star Series (PASS) stars will battle against Seekonk Speedway Pro Stock regulars in a 150-lap, $10,000 to win main event. As part of the supporting card, one of Seekonk’s Fast Friday divisions will help keep fans engaged all night, along with the return of the PASS Modifieds.
The NLR Summer Showdown will be a non-points event when it comes to the weekly Seekonk schedule — however — it will have big money on the line. The race will pay $1,500 to win for the second straight year courtesy of sponsorship by B&M Maintenance — and will have a total purse inside the top-10 of just over $5,000. The 35-lap special will be part of a major night — as the racing will all be shown live on FloRacing.TV — showcasing the action to a national audience as part of a deal between Seekonk and FloRacing, a growing streaming partner in short-track racing. There will also be a Bonus for the Nicks Pitstop Monster Lap Pole Award and additional $500 awarded into the purse in some awards to be announced later. “Legend Car drivers and teams are so dedicated and committed each and every year. It’s awesome to be able to get them on the big stage, especially with the PASS Series, and have them race for a big purse,” Nick Lascuola, owner of NLR, said. "The last two years, the best races of the year for the Legends Cars have been the big money shows, so it’ll be exciting to watch the drivers duke it out and show off their skills in the spotlight again this year." Nick Lascuola Racing is operated by former Seekonk Speedway Legends Cars and Seekonk Youth Racing Association winner and champion, Nick Lascuola. Based in Massachusetts, they offer setup, maintenance and rental programs to competitors for weekly racing at Seekonk, along with some additional select events in the area. For more information, or to get your ride today, call 508-828-8233. “We’re excited to have this special Legends Cars event and looking forward to hopefully drawing some competitors from out of the area to battle with our local track stars,” Ed St. Germain, Director of Business Development, said. “Our Fast Friday Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars program is one of the top in the region, and we’re proud of it. We are able to showcase both the youth of the track and some veteran drivers who would like to compete in a bit more affordable class. The Legends Cars are a major part of the Seekonk Speedway family, and so is Nick Lascuola Racing — a sponsor of the track for many years and a great partner. This elevates this event even higher." The Bay State Classic -- including the NLR Summer Showdown for the INEX Legends Cars — is just one of three special Wednesday nights event in 2022. On Wednesday, June 29, Modified Madness returns with the Tri Track Tour-Type Modifieds battling for a $10,000 prize. On Wednesday, August 24 — the NEMA Midgets and NEMA Lites return for the Boston Louie Seymour Memorial Classic — while the New England Supermodified Series — operated by PASS — will also make their debut on that night. Tickets for all Wednesday events — and Fast Friday, NASCAR Saturday and Thrill Show races — are now available at SeekonkSpeedway.com. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to avoid the busy lines on race day. Defending champion Nick Lascuola, of Abington, MA, has set a torrid pace in the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars at Seekonk Speedway this season. He has won all seven Friday night races, and the last two races in 2013. That’s not enough for Lascuola. He wants to go undefeated this season and win the championship.
“It takes a lot of hard work each week,” Lascuola said. “We prepare the car all week long and make sure it’s perfect. Come race day you have to go through the field smooth, but also have to be fast without getting into trouble. “So sometimes it can be difficult, especially when you have Robins get out front first cause each week I need to chase him down from about a half a straight to a full straight. So you need to (be) perfect every lap and consistent even with all the lapped traffic. But also you have to have a little luck fall your way and a couple times we’ve had cautions that have fell our way and helped us out. Then other haven’t helped us out but we work and push the through it each week.” Lascuola has nine consecutive victories, the unofficial record for the 69-year-old Route 6 oval. Ray Souliere won six consecutive Street Stock races from 1978-79, the year he would capture the first of three championships. Christopher Robinson dominated the SYRA 600 class in 2005, winning five in a row twice, a season where he won 15 of 20 races. Two drivers came close with eight wins in nine races. NEAR Hall of Famer Ralph ‘Hop’ Harrington drove the Sgambato #9 to 10 victories en route to his second of three championships. George Ponte matched that in 1968 in his #121 Class B car. “It means a lot,” Lascuola said. “To know that we actually have more wins in a row than some of the greats that have raced at Seekonk and to know that we can still make the streak longer. And I never would have thought at 17 years old, I’d have a record at all at Seekonk, never mind most wins in a row.” 26 wins place him 29th all time, tied with Jimmy Wilkins, Jr. and Tom Scully, Jr. An impressive list of drivers have 25 wins: NEAR Hall of Famer Joe Rosenfield, Pro Stock points leader Kenny Spencer, five-time champion Rick Hanatow, Jr., Street Stock win leader Scott Serydynski and former Pro Stock champion Bobby Tripp. “I really like the Legend Car,” Lascuola said. “They’re a great stepping stone when you’re moving up the ladder in racing. They teach you car control and throttle control.” Lascuola raced a Legend Car at Waterford Speedbowl in Connecticut, but wanted to race his home track Seekonk. Two years ago his family talked with track officials to get the Legends Cars added. According to Lascuola, the car counts have gone up at Seekonk compared to other tracks. “It’s good to see them build up this way and I hope they keep building up even after I stop racing in one.” A rookie in the Late Models, Lascuola was close to his first win Saturday, losing to veteran Ray Parent in the final laps. Lascuola wants a top three points finish and Rookie of the Year honors. He points to his Legends Car experience as aiding his transition to full bodied cars. Lascuola may attempt a few American Canadian Tour (ACT) races this season in advance of a full time effort in 2015. He estimates that he would have more information within a month. Lascuola is supported by Barrett’s Haunted Mansion, Champion Spark Plugs, the 15-40 Connection, Midway Automotive, Crow Collision, The Brake Man Brakes, Simpson Racing Products, and US Legend Car Engine Shop. “(I) have to thank Farbo Motorsports for the setup,” Lascuola said. “my mom, dad, stepmom, my family for their support, and my cousin Bobby for all the work he helps do to the car.” |
